Massage Therapy Awareness Week

The AMTA dedicates one week every year for the purpose of education and recognition to increase the public's understanding about the benefits of massage therapy. This year that week is October 23rd thru Oct 30th. The demand for massage continues to increase every year as consumers strive for alternative healthcare for pain relief, stress relief and other health issues. Glenath Moyle, current AMTA president says "Our recent survey shows that 90 percent of respondents perceive massage as effective in reducing pain and we think this is highly reflective of the good work done every day by our members across the nation."

Some clients come to find relief from health concerns like low back pain, headaches, insomnia, and stress. According to a recent Consumer Reports survey, respondents indicated that they view deep-tissue massage, along with stretching, yoga and Pilates, as effective as prescriptions for the relief of back pain. It was also reported in a news article last year that regular massage decreases the body's production of the stress hormone cortisol which can help boost the immune system. Other clients call seeking massage therapy to compliment their athletic training: golfers, runners, tennis players and athletes of all ability level (from weekend warrior to professionals). Massage can assist as a maintenance for athletes as well as enhancing performance and recovery. As massage therapists, we believe that anyone who is breathing can benefit from massage.

As we take this week to share and appreciate the benefits of massage therapy (which are too many to name here) we encourage you to make therapeutic massage an integral part of your health and wellness routine.
